Matt Flake

Matt has been a member of the band since October 2004.  “Scooter”, as he is known by his friends, began playing the mandolin when he was only nine years old. About a year later, he started  fiddle lessons with Jesse Haycraft. He continued these lessons for several years.

In March 2008, Matt married his Tennessee sweetheart, Betsy, and moved to Sevierville, Tn.

Matt previously played with Blue Tradition, a Kentucky-based bluegrass band that has won championships in both Kentucky and Indiana. Individually, Matt has won state contests in Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana on three different instruments:  Mandolin, Fiddle, and Guitar. Currently, Matt plays a custom-made John Silakowski five-string fiddle.

Matt's parents, Kenny and Loretta Flake, live in Kentucky where Kenny also enjoys playing bluegrass. Matt's sister, Tonya, and her family also live in Kentucky. In his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, having late night jams, and spending time with friends and family.
